Royal Geographical Society's Self-Guided Walks

The following self-guided walks are available for your enjoyment. They are listed in order from the most northern walk at Terrapinna Tors (north of Arkaroola) to the most southern at Mount Brown. More details of these walks are to be found, with much other interesting information about the Flinders, in the Royal Geographical Society's book "Explore the Flinders Ranges". Terrapinna Tors on Moolawatana Station, the Hamilton Creek trailhead is 9 km west of Moolawatana on the Lyndhurst track. A 7 km loop walk across open granite country of the oldest part of the Flinders Ranges.

Bararrann in Arkaroola Wildlife Sanctuary with the trail-head at Welcome Mine about 10 km from Arkaroola Village along the Paralana Hot Springs road. A delightfiil 6.8 km loop walk with evidence of the geological past and the dramatic flood events of the present Arkaroola Creek.

Acacia Ridge in Arkaroola Wildlife Sanctuary with trailheads at Arkaroola Village and 4 km east along the entrance road near Arkaroola Station homestead. This 5.8 km linear walk is aplea~nt introduction to the varied Arkaroola landscape.

Mawson - Spriggin in Arkaroola Wildlife Sanctuary with the trailhead at Arkaroola Village. An 8.0 km loop walk with significant geological associations.

Oppaminda - Nudlamutana passes through both the Arkaroola Wildlife Sanctuary and the Gammon Ranges National Park; trailheads are at Arkaroola Village and in Munyallina Valley 11.6 km by road south of Arkaroola. A 15.2 km linear walk through interesting vegetation, with good views from Mt Warren Hastings and some insights to pastoralism and mining history

Weetootla in the Gammon Ranges National Park with trail-heads at Weetootla Camp 7~ 1 km from Balcanoona and at Grindell Hut. An 8.4 km loop walk, with options, through some of the picturesque habitats of the National Park. Interesting geology too.Italowie in the Gammon Ranges National Park with trailheads at Italowie Gap 15 km south of Balcanoona on the Copley road and at Grindell Hut 26.5 km into the park from Balcanoona. A 15.7 km linear walk along part of one of the major creek systems of the Gammon Ranges.

Wilkawillina near the eastern boundary of the Flinders Ranges National Park, the principal trailliead is at the Wilkawillina carpark 7 km in from the Oraparinna -Wirrealpa road. An 11.4 km linear walk through the visually stimulating and geologically significant Wilkawillina Gorge.

Hayward. Huts in the Flinders Ranges National Park with trailheads near Aroona homestead ruins. Trezona campground and Youngoona hut ruin. Offering a 15.4 km linear walk. the 8.0 km Yuluna loop or the 78 km Trezona loop through park-like former pastoral lands.

Bunyeroo - Wilcolo Creeks in the Flinders Ranges National Park, the trajihead is in Bunyeroo carpark, on the Bunyeroo Valley road 18 km north of the Blinman road turn-off and 10 km south of the Brachina road. A 9.2km loop walk follows a portion of the Heysen Trail through the ABC Range.

The Dutchmans Stern in The Dutchmans Stern Conservation Park, turn off the Arden Vale Rd 6.5 km north of Quorn. The trailhead is located at the carpark 3 km west from the turn-off. A 10.5 km loop walk through a delightjully diverse area with fine views to the north and west.

Mount Brown in the Mount Brown Conservation Park, trailhead on Waukarie Creek just beyond Olive Grove homestead 14 km south of Quorn on the Richman Valley Rd. A 15 km loop walk to a location significant in the State history from where there are magnificent 360 0 views.
