Elliston Coastal Trail

The Elliston Coastal Trail is situated on the shores of spectacular Waterloo Bay between some of the most dramatic coastline on the Eyre Peninsula. The Trail can be experienced as a whole or via smaller trails: The Little Bay Trail, Clifftop Trail or Beach Loop so walkers of all experience levels can enjoy the coastline, discover the great ecosystem diversity and learn about the history of our community.

The trail comprises compacted limestone pathways, upgraded vehicle access and parking, safer viewing areas and interpretative signage and revegetation. Care has been taken to maintain and reinforce the native vegetation and students from the Elliston Area School assisted in the planting of trees in strategic areas.

The 13.6 kilometre Trail has occupied over five years of public consultation, design and construction to ensure the successful completion of this significant $1.8million project. The Trail was funded by the Federal Government, State Government and a contribution from all the district’s ratepayers.

The District Council of Elliston took on the project due to a number of delays which threatened its future and staff are delighted with the final product.

It is anticipated that the Elliston Coastal Trail, while being enjoyed by residents will also attract visitors to the area and encourage them to stay longer.

Elliston Jetty Precinct

The historic Elliston Jetty precinct upgrade was included in the Coastal Trail project. The installation of new toilets, carparking area, shelters with barbecues and planting of trees allows the walker to stop for a while to enjoy the bay views, perhaps catch a fish from the jetty or just soak up the wonderful atmosphere.

Little Bay Surf Break

A Reconciliation Monument has been erected on this site in order to recognise the traditional owners of the land.

A shelter and car parking area have been established so if you are not able to walk the trail you still have the opportunity to enjoy the views. Sometime you will see the hardy surfers in the waters below.

Elliston Town Beach Precinct

The Town Beach section of the Coastal Trail now includes updated facilities for the tourists and locals who choose to stop for a meal. From this spot you can walk along the beach to the Elliston Jetty before continuing on the Clifftop Trail or returning to experience the Little Bay Trail.

Elliston Lookout

From this point on the Trail, with a spectacular 360 degree view of Elliston, comprehensive and breathtaking views of the islands and the bay below can be experienced.
