Heart Foundation – South Australian Division

2016 Award Winner
Award Category: Special Recognition Award - Group / Organisation

The Heart Foundation is a charity dedicated to fighting the single biggest killer of Australians – heart disease. For over 50 years we have worked to save lives and improve the heart health of all Australians.

The Heart Foundation is committed to actively promoting walking to the general public and health professional audiences. We recognise that regular physical activity, such as walking, makes you less likely to have a heart attack or develop heart disease.

Heart Foundation Walking (HFW) is our flagship physical activity program aiming to increase the number of Australians who walk for health, leisure and transport purposes. Coordinated nationally, with over 26,000 walkers registered, it is Australia’s largest free walking network.

While noting the activities of the national walking program, this nomination is to acknowledge the South Australian Heart Foundation for its independent efforts to increase walking in SA both in the general community and within the staff of the SA Heart Foundation.
