Walking SA has provided feedback to the City of Holdfast Bay on the proposed changes to Jetty Road, Glenelg. We particularly value that we provided feedback on the vision outlined in Concept B and Concept C. Our preference is for Concept C, however, as it offers the greatest benefits for pedestrians and enhances the public space, encouraging more people to stay and engage with the area.
We commend the initiative to prioritise pedestrians and improve the public realm in this key area of Glenelg. There is substantial research demonstrating that walkable and bikeable streets are beneficial for local businesses. High streets, like Jetty Road, need to be easily accessible and attractive places where people can comfortably spend time.
Our submission focuses on aspects our preferred Concept Design (Concept C) that aligns with walking advocacy, safety, and sustainability.
