Track Notes

Remember to check environmental conditions, with particular attention to river water-levels as parts of the Sturt River track may become flooded.

Starting point is the Weymouth Oval / Coromandel Community Centre, Main Road, Coromandel Valley, almost opposite Nicolle Drive. Parking, picnic area and toilets available.

Stage 1: Weymouth Oval to Sturt River

Cross sign-posted Chambers creek footbridge and turn right along the walkway by the creek bed, then right along Wyndham where the two join

After approx 100m, turn right into the narrow curved walkway of a reserve then left just before footbridge on informal track which also follows creek bed – don’t cross creek

Turn left along McNamara by the rusty water pump then, at its bend, onto and along the walkway leading past McNamara Ford sign – don’t cross footbridge here

Cross Murrays Hill Rd & take downhill informal track south-west corner Horners Bridge & follow Sturt river over rocky outcrops to & through Gate 20 Flagstaff Hill Fire Track

Continue along this fire track uphill paralleling the Sturt river then continue down through two further gates for a short distance to the fire track’s left bend

Here locate & follow informal track on right down to Sturt river: then turn left long informal riverside track, downstream, crossing three tributaries

Stage 2 Sturt River to Flagstaff Hill Recreation Ground

As you cross third tributary (keep lookout for wooden posts and rails as a landmark at this point), turn immed. Left uphill on informal track, following fence line

Keep right of uphill house, along fire track, then take right fire track fork near same house

Take left fork in fire track at high point near house with latticed veranda trim

Exit right onto York then shortly enter Flagstaff Hill Recreation Ground on left, toilets available

Stage 3 Return to Weymouth Oval

Take narrow informal downhill track located between the kindergarten car park and the lower green shed, easing towards fence line of houses on left

At concrete walkway, turn left & immed (sic). Right at walkway junction, then across footbridge

Take 2nd left fork (at 2nd ‘To school and Community Centre’ sign) & cross Kingfisher at top

Follow concrete walkway E briefly, then follow fence line of houses on left & continue down to lower walkway then again turn left, keeping picnic shelter on your left

Keep to walkway until first house on right, then turn leftL across footbridge & then immed (sic). R (sic)

Turn left uphill (no track) & walk north-east uphill on reserve to & across Sturt Approach

Follow walkway to end Skylark, then L along walkway until cross creek on culvert

Then turn immed (sic). Right (east) on walkway to & across Glendale, following walkway to Heath Cross Heath & follow creek-line towards school oval, easing left towards goal posts

Exit near gate, turn right onto Murrays Hill, left onto Lyric, left on Light then right onto Banes

Approx 40m down Banes, turn right downhill into reserve, east onto and along Almond then left onto Marion - you have now completed the circuit
