About the Walking Trail

The easier and shorter of the two walks in Telford Scrub Conservation Park, the 1.7km Forest Canopy Walk is a smaller loop of the 4.7km Stringybark Forest Hike.

Enjoy a pleasant walk through the forest and along the 100 metre forest canopy boardwalk. At just over five metres high, the boardwalk crosses a gully and is elevated into the tree branches, taking you closer to the tree canopy and the wildlife that live and forage there. Listen out, there are lots of bird calls and birdlife to see, with the chance to see koalas, wallabies and Southern Brown Bandicoots.

The walk wanders through Swamp Gum woodland, with an understorey of Austral Bracken Fern and several species of tea-tree.

The walk is suitable for families with young children, and would be suitable for a pram with large wheels.

Start the walk from the carpark on Grundys Lane, Dismal Swamp. Follow the trail, which is also the Stringybark Forest Hike, to the boardwalk. The walk continues onward north of the boardwalk, looping back around to the carpark through Brown Stringbark forest.

There are interpretive signs along the trail, highlighting some of the wildlife and flora, including the more than 20 species of native orchids.

There is a picnic ground with tables a short distance into the walk.

The carpark and trailhead is just 13 minutes drive north of Mt Gambier, just off the Riddoch Highway.
