About the Walking Trail

Hart Lagoon is situated close to the Waikerie township and riverfront. The walking track starts adjacent to the Waikerie Caravan Park and is a loop of 5km. It follows the edge of the lagoon to Ricciuto Road and returns between the river and the lagoon.

The track can be done in sections the most popular and shortest section is from the start to the bird hide. Some of the plants that are common along the track have been labelled in this section.

It is a wetland of significance and interest within the Waikerie township and represents a site of important environmental value, due to the habitat it provides for native flora and fauna and is great for bird watching.

Hart Lagoon wetland has a managed wetting and drying cycle as part of the ecological function of the wetland. During wetting cycles many wetland birds and wildlife can be seen in the area. During drying cycles dry land and wetland wildlife can be seen.
