Heysen Trail Loop through Mount Crawford

About the Walking Route

Walk a loop hike on the Heysen Trail through the native and plantation forests around Mount Crawford. Highlights include the native forest along the ridgeline up to Little Mount Crawford, and the open plantation forest between Rocky Paddock Campsite and Chalks Campsite.

The full Heysen Trail is 1,200 km long, and stretches from Cape Jervis in the south to Flinders Ranges in the north. This loop trail is all on the Heysen Trail, so you can easily follow the markers, but watch out you don’t walk north towards Mount Crawford and the Old School House, or south to Warren Tower or Kersbrook.

There are plenty of points to access the trail from, some of which include:

  • Mount Crawford Forest Visitor Information Centre
  • Chalks Campsite
  • Rocky Paddock Campsite
