The Monitor Loop trail in Willowie Forest meanders along the foothills of the Mount Remarkable Range. The trail crosses several shallow watercourses and reaches the highest areas of Willowie Forest.

The trails in Willowie Forest, part of Mount Remarkable National Park, were built in opened in late 2017. In 2024 the trails here in Willowie Forest were consolidated, as the focus of the Forest is on mountain biking experiences. Walkers can experience the forest on the Monitor Loop. The only shared-use trail is this Monitor Loop trail detailed on this page.

Be aware of the numerous mountain biking paths that cross the Monitor Loop. They are signposted and you will need to give way to crossing mountain bikers.

There are three trail loops is one walking trail loop in Willowie Forest:

•   Echidna Loop (1.7km loop)
•   Monitor Loop (6.5km)
•   Possum Loop (4.2km loop)

Access the trailhead from the carpark and picnic area for Willowie Forest, which is 7.7km by road north of Melrose. You can also access it via the Southern Flinders Rail Trail, 4.8km north of the Melrose Showgrounds, or 6.8km north of Melrose.

There is a picnic shelter and toilets with drinking water at the carpark.
