Mt Bold to Willunga Basin Trail link trail

About the Walking Trail

This connecting trail links Section 7 of the Willunga Basin Trail to the trails in Mt Bold Reservoir (specifically to the Wedgetail Trail).

The trail was conceived of and created by a collaboration of volunteers between the Adelaide Bushwalkers and the Willunga Basin Trail Inc, opening in January 2025.

The connecting trail follows unmade road reserves and country laneways. It is 45min 2.6km Class 3 Moderate Hike.

The link enables increases walking options including:

  • Multi-day hikes using the Willunga Basin Trail, the Mt Bold trails, the Heysen Trail, and other trails in Kuitpo Forest.
  • Hike between Rocky Creek Campground in Kuitpo Forest and Pink Gum Camp Campground in Onkaparinga River National Park. You can connect these two trails with a 24.5km Class 4 Hard Hike. Find out more about this route on the Adelaide Bushwalker’s website.
  • A two-day one-night hike along the unmarked Bill Lindsay Circuit Trail route (suggested as multi-day hike camping out, of Day One being 14km 5-6 hours, and Day Two 14km 4-5 hours, Grade 4-5.) Find out more about this route on the Adelaide Bushwalker’s website.

The volunteers creating the link trail had wanted to name the trail the Bill Lindsay Link, honouring Harold Arthur (Bill) Lindsay (1900–1969). Bill was the founder of the Adelaide Bushwalkers and prominent figure for conservation and the environment in South Australia. Bill Lindsay loved hiking in the area of Mt Bold Reservoir and long desired to make a safe trail connecting the Heysen Trail (Rocky Creek) to Onkaparinga River National Park (Pink Gum Campground).
