About the Walking Route
There are two wetlands in Mt Compass:
- The one detailed on this page, south of the town: the Mt Compass School Swamp wetlands, sometimes called the Mount Compass Wetlands Boardwalk.
- On the east side of the town, next to IGA (Sam Court): Mt Compass Wetlands Walk
The Mt Compass School Swamp wetlands provides an area for school children to learn about the importance of wetlands and their ecosystems. Less than 4% of the Fleurieu Peninsula Swamps remain, and this is one of them. The swamps are densely vegetated and occur adjacent to waterlogged soils around low-lying creeks and flats.
The Y-shaped boardwalks ends at two spots:
- the water-monitoring location, which is a great spot for kids to get close the water, and
- the adjacent forest
A walk of both sections of boardwalk is about a 1.1km pleasant walk.
The boardwalk begins on Arthur Road, on the southern side of Mt Compass.
