About the Walking Trail
In this historical nature reserve, managed by the National Trust of South Australia, you can see natural and manmade changes which have taken place over millions of years; in the times before vertebrate animals roamed the landscape, in the times when small communities of Aborigines lived off the land and more recently, from early European settlers to the present, when rural industries and urban communities rely so heavily on the River Murray.
These walks provide geological and historical background and explore the challenges that current water management issues pose to both the local and wider community
There are three walks:
- Herons Bend Walk (2.6km circuit, marked in blue on map above)
- Floodplain Walk (2.7km circuit, marked in green on map above)
- Heritage Walk (2.8km circuit, marked in red on map above)
- a loop of all 3 trails is about 6km
