About the Walking Trail
This cycle track is primarily designed for mountain bikes, but sections could be used by walkers, particularly at the Port Pirie end west of the main highway (this section of walking / cycling / fire track is 3.8km long). The trail west of the main highway to Napperby is dirt or town road.
The trail links Port Pirie with the small town of Napperby.
The trail is part of an extensive network of mountain bike trails in the Southern Flinders Ranges.
In November 2017 a concept trail, the Port Pirie to Flinders Ranges Gateway Trail, was one of regional projects to receive funding under the Fund My Neighbourhood program. The hiking trail will connect Port Pirie via this Port Pirie to Napperby Cycle Track, and the Napperby Gorge Hike via the Napperby Scout Camp, to the Bluff Tower lookout. It will link with key attractions in the Southern Flinders Ranges including the Heysen Trail and Wirrabara Forest trail network. Hikers will be able to enjoy spectacular ridge-line scenery and views of the Spencer Gulf.
