About the Walking Trail
Named in honor of park benefactor, Mr Ludwig Reinwald Steub, the Steub Trail gently climbs through heathy forest woodland communities from the Cleland Wildlife Park to Mount Lofty Summit. The trail has been designed with gentle, low-gradient access making it possible for those with reduced mobility to reach the summit.
Keep a watch out for bandicoots, echidnas, yellow-tailed black cockies, and kangaroos. Enjoy views over the southern ridges of the park and out to the Adelaide plains.
The trail is suitable for walking, prams, trail-running and mountain bikers. The trail has been capped smooth(ish) with a recycled product (Bitumate). classified it as a Grade 3 walk, and an ‘Easy with Intermediate sections’ ride.
The trail is 3.5km one-way, 7km and 3 hours return. Being only about half a kilometre shorter than the popular Waterfall Gully to Mt Lofty summit hike, the trail is an excellent alternate option to reach the summit.
Start the trail from southern side of the carpark at Cleland Wildlife Park, or from Mt Lofty Summit.
