About the Walking Trail
Walk the 5km circuit Tyms Lookout Hike up to Tyms Lookout, with views over the vast mallee landscape. The trail is great for birdwatching, views and wildflowers, especially in spring.
The large Ngarkat Conservation Park is mallee, heath and vegetated sand dunes. The park abounds in wildlife. Look out for western grey kangaroo and emus and more than 120 species of birds. You may spot a rare malleefowl walking slowly among the trees.
Start the hike from the carpark at the Snoswell Entrance to Ngarkat Conservation Park. The carpark is on the south-western boundary of the park, at the end of the Snoswells Roads, which is a 4.5km dirt road drive off of the Dukes Highway near Keith (generally 2wd suitable). As this road heads beyond the carpark and trailhead into the conservation park, the roads become suitable for 4wd only.
The trail is sign-posted but may be difficult to follow in some sections.
